Royal Opera House Ruins Theatre

The Royal Opera House was a spectacular performing arts venue in Valletta prior to World War 2.  Unfortunately, it received a direct hit from aerial bombing by the German Luftwaffe in 1942.

Although most of the building was completely destroyed, the back of the Opera House did remain somewhat intact.

In 2013, an open-air theatre was established on the former site of the Opera House.  The new theatre was assigned the name "Pjazza Teatru Rjal" (Royal Theatre Square).  It is often called the Ruins Theatre.
